INHERITANCE

: the acquisition of a trait from past generations

: a valuable possession that is a common heritage from nature

INHERITANCE is a duo art show featuring the work of Sebastian Ambrus Kiss and Mercedes Lucia Kiss, father and daughter. It is a conversation between their styles, subjects, and stories.

The pieces - many being shown to the public for the first time - span oceans and landscapes, figures and fantasies, an immigration and a generation.

For the Kisses, art and architecture distinguish their ancestry. Creative expression was the first communication, the native language. Artistry is the energy coursing through the family tree, and their creations bond the branches.

INHERITANCE can mean many things. This show is an invitation to view legacy as the gifting of beauty from parent to child.

Sebastian Ambrus Kiss began painting prolifically as a child in Budapest, Hungary, where his parents, both architects and designers, encouraged him to treat the walls of their home as canvases for his imagination and talent. In 1980, as a young emigree to the United States, he pursued a career in architecture in Washington DC (where Mercedes would be born in 1985), and eventually settled in Massachusetts. His artwork has been shown in India, Japan, Europe, and the United States. He still enjoys painting and drafting designs for homes, as well as swimming - a lifelong passion - as often and fast as the hands of time allow. He hopes this show infuses viewers with inspiration, energy, and motivation to create works of their own.

Mercedes Lucia Kiss was welcomed into a world surrounded by artistic expression. Early memories dance with the vibrant colors, shapes, and figures of her father’s paintings. Animating her life has been an insatiable curiosity and wonderment about the universe, with art serving as her companion in making meaning of its realities and mysteries. Like prior generations, Mercedes started her career as an architect before progressing to found A STAND OUT, an atelier fashioning artworks and experiences that fete uniqueness in full bloom. Through her work, and certainly this show, she invites others to contemplate their own rare gifts, and feel emboldened to affect the world positively with them. Mercedes lives in Massachusetts with her husband and remarkably handsome dog named Ghost.
